I believe that God is calling us today as Christian businesspeople to stand out and be different, unique in this world. But how does your market perceive you? Do people see you as offering services that are unique, valuable, and essential to meeting their wants? Or do folks see you as just another wandering generality - lost in a sea of "sameness"- with no clue as to the one thing you have that makes you better than the competition?

Paul said in Titus 2:14 that God is calling us to become "His own special people." That means we must dare to make a difference and go beyond being ordinary so we can do good works. To have any degree of large-scale success, prospects must trust you completely.

The kind of marketing you want to engage in is the type that builds a bridge, forms a deep bond, and creates a sincere feeling of trust with your market.

Most importantly, since God is calling you now to go out into the world and "do business" for The Kingdom - to fulfill on the mission He has for your life - you will know if you are on the right path by how different you present your services to be.

How exactly will you know?

By the fruit you pick.

But the best fruit to pick is not always that fruit that hangs low. You must summon the courage to pursue the things you want in the face of any adversity, and have the strength and moral conviction market your services with God at the center of your journey because you believe that is the right thing to do.

So, my friend, the time has come for you to lay down the foundation for a profitable marketing program that brings glory and honor to God. Here's how:

Identify what makes you special.
Set yourself apart - distinguish and differentiate your business - from the competition. You will never receive the blessings God has in store for you if you expect people to automatically buy from you just because you have a terrific service or a wonderful personality.

Start by defining who you are. What do you do best that comes hard to most? Is there something you have a knack for doing that you can build your dreams and goals around? What unique features do you have that others cannot duplicate?

The biggest blessings are for people who recognize that each of us came here with a gift to give to the world. Each of us has something worthwhile to offer that places us above all others.

Tap into the poetry within you.
Are you the guy that people call when they're having trouble with their cars? Are you a whiz at trading securities? Are you a genius at showing people how to save money in taxes? Does everyone admire the way you decorate homes? Can you sell homes faster than most other real estate agents? Are you good with numbers? Or do you have an incredible knack for fixing things?

The point is: God wants others to know that you are special. You may live in the world, but your heart is not of the world. Let folks know how they will be blessed by doing business with you. It's all about taking a stand on your skills, talents and abilities - a stand on what you are God's abundant resource for.

Find your niche.
People today are market savvy and demand choice, individualized attention or customization, and an extraordinary level of service. Therefore, you'll want to zero in on a meaningful point of differentiation that people can relate to: your market's greatest pain and greatest desire.

People don't buy products and services. They will exchange their hard earned money only for the unique value you offer: the solution, end result, contribution, or benefits you promise.

Folks want to be safe, be happy, have fun, feel good, and be successful. On the flip side, they want to get rid of, or be free from, worry, conflict, sickness, trouble, uncertainty, poverty, and so on. Just remember, people will buy from you for their reasons, not yours.

And until you uncover those reasons, your chances of moving up the tree to pick some fruit are slim.
